Olivier Barriot of Deluxe de FranceWine Brokering

Having grown up as part of a large viticultural family, I naturally inherited a passion for wine and went on to study viticulture and œnology at college. This was followed by several years quite literally ‘in the field’, both in France and abroad, managing working teams and the vineyards themselves. This passion for wine is in permanent evidence - whenever I find myself abroad, I am constantly looking for new wines and spirits to excite and tantalise my palate.  An old French quote often used in our family business is “il y a du bon et du mauvais partout” (“there is good and bad everywhere”), for which the equivalent quote in English might be that you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince! A good excuse to taste a lot of wines…

During my studies, I was lucky enough to work in many French regions renowned for their wines, such as Burgundy and Bordeaux, but my heart will always remain in the south where I grew up. The Languedoc Roussillon region offers a diversity difficult to match anywhere in the world; a diversity of both grapes and wine due not only to the wide range of soils and perfect grape-growing climate, but also to the generations of knowledge and experience employed in the grapes’ cultivation and vinification.

My wine-based travels have taken me throughout eastern and western Europe and as far as Australia, tasting a vast range of different wines on the way. Some of my favourite wines are produced in Spanish vineyards, such as le Priorat, which has a dynamic attitude to winemaking and produces incredible wines. In the east of Europe, on the edge of the Adriatic Sea, Croatia has a rich wine-producing culture, offering products of excellent quality. Corsica also has many top-class wines to offer.

What I propose to my clients is the chance to bring the Epicurean pleasure of an excellent-tasting wine to others. To offer not just another generic wine bottle with a well-known name on the label - a pretty or well-marketed label does not necessarily equal a good or even palatable wine – but to offer a choice of wines, memorable for their quality. A quality wine creates its own market. It’s a chance to be the first to distribute wine from undiscovered new territories, to fight homogeneity with quality.

With my many global contacts, I propose to match vineyards with importers in order to facilitate the wholesale importation of wine to any given country. Please contact me by phone or email to discuss these opportunities
